- 5 cups pitted, quartered fresh purple plums
- 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup enriched all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground mace
- 1 egg, well beaten
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted and cooled
- Put plums into a shallow 2-quart baking dish or casserole.
- Mix brown sugar, 3 tablespoons flour, and cinnamon; sprinkle over plums and mix gently with a fork.
- Blend 1 cup flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and mace thoroughly. Add to beaten egg and stir with a fork until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over plums in baking dish. Pour melted butter evenly over the topping.
- Bake at 375 ํF 40 to 45 minutes, or until topping is lightly browned. Serve warm.
[ 6 to 8 servings ]
Note: Other fresh fruits may be substituted for the plums.
