- 2 tablespoons fat
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3/4 cup chopped celery
- 3/4 cup chopped green pepper
- 1 cup chili sauce
- 1 cup ketchup
- Enriched hamburger buns, buttered and toasted
- Heat fat in a large skillet. Add onion and cook until soft, stirring occasionally. Add beef, salt, and pepper; cook until meat is lightly browned, separating it into pieces with a fork or spoon.
- Add celery, green pepper, chili sauce, and ketchup; mix well. Simmer, uncovered, about 25 minutes; stir frequently.
- To serve, spoon over toasted buns.
