Saucy Beef ‘n’ Buns

  • 2  tablespoons fat
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1  pound ground beef
  • 1  teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3/4 cup chopped celery
  • 3/4 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1  cup chili sauce
  • 1  cup ketchup
  • Enriched hamburger buns, buttered and toasted
  1. Heat fat in a large skillet. Add onion and cook until soft, stirring occasionally. Add beef, salt, and pepper; cook until meat is lightly browned, separating it into pieces with a fork or spoon.
  2. Add celery, green pepper, chili sauce, and ketchup; mix well. Simmer, uncovered, about 25 minutes; stir frequently.
  3. To serve, spoon over toasted buns.
